This half term we will be learning...

  • In English, we will be writing diary entries based on Secrets of a Sun King, focusing on writing from a character’s point of view and expressing thoughts and feelings clearly. We will then begin reading Macy and the Riddle of the Sphinx and write a story continuation about Macy discovering Ra’s boat. Throughout these units, we will be developing our use of expanded noun phrases, fronted adverbials, conjunctions and accurate punctuation to make our writing more detailed and engaging.
  • In Maths, we will be recapping place value and developing our addition and subtraction skills. This will include understanding the value of digits in tens, hundreds and thousands, reading, writing, comparing and ordering numbers, and using mental and written methods to solve addition and subtraction calculations.
  • In Science, we will be learning about States of Matter. This will include identifying and comparing solids, liquids and gases, exploring how materials can change state through heating and cooling, and investigating the water cycle and how matter changes in the world around us.
  • In History, we will be learning about Ancient Egypt. This will include finding out about the lives of the Ancient Egyptians, the importance of the River Nile, the role of pharaohs and pyramids, and how Ancient Egypt became one of the world's earliest civilisations.
  • In R.E., we will be learning about Sikhism and how the lives and teachings of the Gurus inspire Sikh believers. This will include exploring the qualities of the Sikh Gurus, understanding their important messages, and discovering how Sikhs follow their examples in their daily lives.
